North Charleston Is Not the Jail
North Charleston Police Department may create an incident report, arrest report, citation, or related city record. It does not become the long-term custodian merely because its officer made the arrest. When L.C. Knight Dorchester County Detention Center accepts a person on a Dorchester matter, the Sheriff's jail record owns that custody episode and the release entry.
The distinction controls where to ask. Request the arrest or incident record from the city. Ask the Dorchester Sheriff for the county booking and release record. Use the correct court for the filed charge, bond event, disposition, and sentence. One office cannot be expected to produce another office's record.

Confirm the Dorchester County Boundary
North Charleston spans counties. The city name alone cannot establish that a booking belongs in Dorchester County. Start with the incident location, arresting report number, booking agency, case number, and court name. A Dorchester booking points toward L.C. Knight and the Dorchester Public Index. A matter filed elsewhere belongs in that county's custody and court systems.

Request North Charleston Release Evidence
A strong records request separates the city report from the jail record. Ask North Charleston Police Department for the existing incident or arrest report using its current official records channel. Then use Dorchester County's NextRequest portal for a Sheriff or Detention Center record if L.C. Knight held the person.
For the jail request, give the adult's name, date of birth when needed to distinguish a match, booking number if known, and a narrow booking and release range. Read the Dorchester Court Case
Dorchester County belongs to South Carolina's First Judicial Circuit. Search the Dorchester Public Index by party or case only after confirming the jurisdiction. Review all charge rows, since one booking can include more than one matter and each may have a different result.
Bond posting can explain an early jail exit. Dismissal may explain why one charge ended. A guilty disposition and sentencing entry can explain later custody. Probation may begin without state-prison release. The online public index is informational and does not record the exact jail-gate time.
For official proof, ask the proper clerk or summary court for the filed bond order, judgment, sentencing sheet, dismissal, or later order. When North Charleston Custody Transfers
A Dorchester county release entry may identify SCDC, another jurisdiction, federal custody, or an immigration custodian as the destination. In that case, “released by L.C. Knight” describes one agency ending its hold. It does not mean the person entered the community.

Dorchester Custody Type Selects the Database
Dorchester County contains L.C. Knight plus Lieber and MacDougall SCDC institutions. This is the county's distinctive custody problem: geography cannot choose the correct database. Custody type does. A North Charleston arrest routed to L.C. Knight belongs in the Sheriff record. A sentenced prisoner at Lieber or MacDougall belongs in SCDC tools even though both prisons are in Dorchester County.
The difference also controls the release proof. County bond or local sentence release is shown by the jail record and related court order.
